Jean-Marie Bashilwali (42 years old), from Kibumba, Nyiragongo

When the war chased us from Masisi, I thought my life as a farmer had ended. I lost my land, and my children were going hungry. Then FAA showed me new ways to farm restoring the soil and planting trees. Today, I harvest beans and maize from a small plot, and I even help my neighbors to plant trees. When I see the trees growing tall, I believe my children will grow strong with them. FAA gave me back hope and dignity.

Amina Masika (15 years old), from Karisimbi, Goma city

In my village, people often said that a girl like me, living with a disability, could never go to school. My mother is a widow, and we had no money for school fees. I stayed at home, crying as I watched other children carrying their books to class. Then FAA stepped in. They gave me school fees and school materials and even supported my school to build a ramp. Today, I walk into my classroom with pride. I am in Grade 6, and I dream of becoming a teacher. For the very first time, I feel that I truly belong.

Divine Nyota (28 years old), from Bagira, Bukavu

When my husband was killed in the war, I felt as though my life had ended. With two children to care for and nothing to feed them, I often found myself begging on the streets. Then FAA welcomed me into their vocational training program, where I learned how to make soap. With the small business capital they provided, I was able to start my own business. Today, I sell soap at the market and can afford to pay my children’s school fees. When my son tells me, ‘Mama, I want to become a doctor,’ I no longer feel powerless. FAA has given me the strength and hope to carry my family forward.

Patrick Kambale (19 years old), from Rutshuru

Growing up in Rutshuru, I witnessed violence and mistrust dividing my community. I felt hopeless about the future. When I joined FAA’s Youth Peace Club, I learned about dialogue, leadership, and mediation. Today, I lead peace activities in my village, bringing young people together to play sports, plant trees, and resolve conflicts peacefully. FAA has helped me believe that we, the youth, can shape a better and more united future.
